Drink spiking involves adding drugs or alcohol to someone’s beverage without their knowledge or consent. The intent behind this action can vary, but it often leads to taking advantage of the victim, causing harm, or facilitating a crime.

Common substances used in drink spiking include GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid), Rohypnol,ketamine, and other sedatives or hypnotics. Additionally, excessive amounts of alcohol can also be used to spike drinks.

Signs of drink spiking may vary depending on the substance used and the individual’s tolerance. Common symptoms include dizziness, extreme drowsiness, loss of coordination, memory blackouts, nausea, confusion, and difficulty speaking. 

To protect yourself from drink spiking, consider these safety measures: 

  • TEST YOUR DRINK with Tutella; your drink guardian. 
  • Look at your drink. Does it appear as it should? colour? viscosity? clarity? If it’s cloudy or excessively bitter. Seek help immediately. 
  • Always watch your drink, and never leave it unattended. 
  • Avoid accepting drinks from strangers or people you do not trust. 
  • If someone offers to buy you a drink, accompany them to the bar and watch the drink being made or TEST IT with Tutella. 
  • Consider using a drink cover at crowded events. 
  • Stay with a group of friends and look out for each other. 
  • Trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable, don’t hesitate to seek help to leave the situation.

Step 1: Install the TUYA App

Open the App Store or Google Play Store:

  • For iPhone users, open the App Store.
  • For Android users, open the Google Play Store.

Search for TUYA:
In the search bar, type “TUYA Smart”.

  1. Open the App Store or Google Play Store:
    • For iPhone users, open the App Store.
    • For Android users, open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for TUYA:
    • In the search bar, type “TUYA Smart”.
  3. Download and Install:
    • Tap the Install or Get button next to the TUYA Smart app.
    • Wait for the app to download and install on your smartphone.
  4. Open the TUYA App:
    • Once installed, tap Open to launch the TUYA Smart app.
  5. Create an Account:
    • If you don’t have a TUYA account, tap Sign Up and follow the prompts to create a new account using your email or phone number.
    • If you already have an account, tap Log In and enter your credentials.

Step 2: Set Up: Eg. the E27 Bulb Camera

(powering up any TUYA App connected camera from Be Safe As and following the prompts will work identically)

  1. Prepare the Camera:
    • Screw the E27 Bulb Camera into a standard light bulb socket.
    • Turn on the power to the socket. The camera will automatically power up.
  2. Add the Camera to TUYA App:
    • Open the TUYA Smart app on your smartphone.
    • Tap the “+” symbol in the top-right corner to add a new device.
  3. Select Device Type:
    • Scroll through the device list and select “Security & Video Surveillance”.
    • Choose “Smart Camera” from the options.
  4. Reset the Camera:
    • If the camera does not automatically enter pairing mode, reset it by pressing the reset button on the camera (refer to the manual for the exact location). The camera will usually flash or emit a sound to indicate it’s ready to pair.
  5. Connect to WiFi:
    • Make sure your smartphone is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network (the camera does not support 5GHz WiFi).
    • Enter your WiFi network password in the TUYA app when prompted.
  6. Pair the Camera:
    • The app will display a QR code on your smartphone screen. Hold the QR code in front of the camera lens until you hear a confirmation sound.
    • The camera will connect to the WiFi network and be added to your TUYA account.
  7. Name Your Camera:
    • Once the camera is connected, you can name it (e.g., “Living Room Camera”) for easy identification.
  8. Finish Setup:
    • The camera’s live feed should now be visible in the TUYA app.
    • Adjust settings such as motion detection, recording preferences, and alerts through the app.

Step 3: Test and Use the Camera

  1. View Live Video:
    • Tap on the camera in the TUYA app to view the live video feed.
  2. Set Up Alerts and Notifications:
    • Customize motion detection alerts and notifications according to your preferences.
  3. Explore Additional Features:
    • Use the app to access features like two-way audio, recording, playback, and more.

Your E27 Bulb Camera is now ready for use, and you can monitor your home from anywhere using the TUYA Smart app!

You or a Friend have been effected by Drink Spiking, what to do next?

  • Call for POLICE and Medical Help: If you experience severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, or intense nausea, call emergency services immediately. It’s better to be safe and seek medical attention promptly.
  • Preserve Evidence: If you haven’t consumed the entire drink, consider keeping it as evidence or tell event staff to preserve it for the authorities to take as evidence. Also, if you have any other belongings, such as a glass or container from the establishment, preserve them to help with any potential investigation.
  • Report the Incident: Inform the staff or security at the venue about the incident. They may be able to provide further assistance or take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents from happening to others.
  • Contact Law Enforcement: If you believe you have been a victim of a crime, contact the local law enforcement authorities to report the drink spiking incident. Cooperate with any investigations they may conduct.
